After touring Thompson Island, we returned a week later to staff the City Nature Challenge. Our task for the day was assisting 24 volunteers. The group was comprised of people from all different walks of life including scientists, families, children, and others. We took observations of various species from or assigned areas and helped educate the public on the importance of biodiversity.
Staffing the City Nature Challenge was a ton of fun. We were able to work on our social skills as we had to communicate how to use different techniques of observation to volunteers that we had never met. We were also able to connect with our community and explore nature with them. This allowed for a fun time during the city nature challenge and taught us many great lessons.
